Before automating anything, four questions in this order: can it be eliminated, simplified, delegated — and only then automated?
Automating a process you could have deleted is the most expensive way to keep it. This is the single rule that has saved me the most work, and the one I most often skip, because building the automation is more interesting than deleting the task.
