A company is not its first product.
The firm built a marketplace, ran it under its own name, then gave it away to a new brand so the firm could become what it actually was — the practice behind it.
Three audiences, one front door.
A homepage can introduce one proposition well. These three arrive wanting different things, and the only way to serve all of them from one page is to serve none of them properly.
Transactional
- Wants a few lakh units of a branded product.
- Needs a catalogue, a price and proof of licence.
Arrives ready to buy.
Transactional
- Has idle capacity and a regulatory file.
- Needs cost to list, speed of payment, and who checks the other side.
Arrives ready to supply.
Advisory
- A licence pathway, an audit observation, a line losing yield.
- Needs expertise scoped to that problem.
Arrives years before any transaction.
Give the product its own name. Keep the firm.
- Before
- The June specification opened: “Savison Life — The Verified B2B Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Marketplace.” A product description wearing a company's name. The same document also carried the firm's hardest operating rule — that it never manufactures, owns or physically handles any product — which is a statement about the company, not the marketplace.
- What forced it
- By August the marketplace was complete end to end, and the firm had five practice areas and a training catalogue it could not introduce from a marketplace homepage.
- The decision
- Acquire a domain for the marketplace and move it there as a consumer-grade brand. Turn the firm's own domain into the consulting practice. Keep one legal entity behind both, rendered wherever money and law require it.
- What it changed
- The marketplace gets one job — trade. The firm gets one job — expertise. Each front door now says exactly one thing to exactly one audience.
Meet the buyer a year before they are a buyer.
The strategy in the founder's own framing: content and advisory exist to give a prospective brand owner a reason to engage with the firm before they even have a manufacturer in mind.
An article, or a course
Published on the shared engine, written for search and for answer engines alike. Five practice areas and five courses, the last aimed squarely at founders new to pharmaceutical manufacturing.
A paid consultation
Sixty minutes on brand and label strategy, or thirty on packaging and artwork. Booked, paid and calendared in one flow.
A manufacturer, eventually
By which point the firm is already the party that explained the regulations — and the marketplace is the obvious next step rather than a cold listing.
Both paid consultations moved to the firm.
- Before
- The brand-strategy and packaging consultations had been built inside the marketplace, as product features.
- What forced it
- The split forced the question of which side of the line they belonged on.
- The decision
- They are consulting services, so they moved to the consulting site and became its booking engine. The marketplace's packaging wizard deep-links across to them.
- What it changed
- The product now hands a customer to the practice at the exact moment that customer needs advice rather than a price.
The incumbent is a relationship, not a website.
Most of the apparent competitive set is not competing for the same job.
| Who | What they do | What they are missing |
|---|---|---|
| Generic B2B directories | Pharma as one category among thousands, monetised by paid listings. | No compliance gate, and no transaction — once you have a phone number, everything happens off-platform with no recourse. |
| International sourcing platforms | Request-for-quote marketplaces skewed to cross-border and bulk trading. | Not built for an India-domestic small brand owner wanting custom packaging. |
| Pharma intelligence platforms | Aggregate regulatory data and manufacturer directories. | Research tools. You still find a contact and negotiate in the dark. |
| Broker and relationship networks | The real competition: personal brokers, trade-show contacts, messaging groups. | Does not scale, does not standardise compliance, produces no comparable prices. |
Three things a brand split cannot fix.
Separating the firm from its product clarified who each surface speaks to. It did not touch any of these, and the firm's own records keep them as carried-forward items rather than closing them.
- Two live brands from one deployment, with every legacy URL preserved.
- A consulting practice with five service areas, five courses and real lead capture.
- Both paid consultations reassigned, with the marketplace deep-linking across.
- Buyers and factories can always go direct. “Anyone who tells you they have solved disintermediation is overselling.” The stated goal is less leakage than a directory, not zero.
- The advisory line is founder-delivered, and the records flag that it may not scale past that before it counts as a second business line.
- The differentiators — verification turnaround, payout speed, dispute fairness — are all human work today, and depend on an operations hire that has not happened.
A thin moat made of operational discipline more than unreplicable technology.
